ELIMU SCHOLARSHIP 2026
SCHOOL FEES and EXTRA LEVIES.
A call for Senior schools Principals to desist from putting additional amounts on top of the stipulated school fees today grew louder after a team of officers from the State Department for Basic Education went out to oversee selection of Elimu scholarship beneficiaries.
Speaking in Muranga County Mr Peter Gachathi one of the directors in Basic Education said it is totally unfair for any senior school head to increase school fees in total disregard of every learner's financial background.
Muranga County director Education of education Philip Wambua reiterated the same sentiment saying even the perceived rich Counties have pockets of learners from poor backgrounds who are supposed to be safeguarded from additional fees of any kind.
Their concerns come at the time when the Ministry of Education top management has dispatched a tough warning against extra levies on official school fees.
In a circular dated 2nd of December the Principal Secretary for Basic Education Prof.Amb. Julius Bitok says action will be taken against any violation of school fees.
He warned all Senior principals to desist from arbitrarily increasing school fees.
Both Mr Gachathi and Mr Wambua say such increments go against the Ministry of Education regulations and guidelines and will eventually deny many bright learners a chance to complete their education.
During the scholarship selection exercise in Muranga County a total of 127 slots are available to be shared by both boys and girls with 67 positions going for girls and 60 will be for boys in all the nine sub-counties within the region.
