PS Lauds Dual Training saying that Tremendous Steps have Been made to roll it out Across all TVET institutions

Principal Secretary State Department For Technical, Vocational Education and Training (SD-TVET) Dr. Esther Thaara Muoria has said that tremendous steps have been made in linking TVET institutions with industries in Kenya in order to effect dual training.

The PS who spoke during the monitoring and evaluation reporting on TVET key priority areas exercise held at Siaya Institute of Technology in Siaya County said that SD-TVET in partnership with GIZ has so far linked numerous TVET institutions with industries and that the institutions are currently training for and with the industries. 

Currently, 20 TVET institutions in Nairobi region are currently implementing dual training and 63 more TVET institutions a cross the country are set to start implementing dual training. The PS noted that training for the industry and with the industry is meant to ensure that TVET institutions produce graduates who are fully qualified to competitively compete in the job market. She alluded that once CBET is fully implemented in TVET institutions in the country, Kenya will become the Singapore of Africa.“I am confident that once dual training and Competency Based Training (CBET) is fully implemented in this country, Kenya will be the Singapore of Africa,” said the PS.the called on TVET Principals to have a change of mindset of doing things in the old ways just because it's how things were done in the past."You cannot continue doing things in the same way and expect different results, let's have a change of mindset and embrace CBET implementation in our institutions" said the PS. She noted that it's the responsibility of the institutions to admit students properly, train them properly, and assess them properly and certify them properly. Dr. Muoria also hinted that KUCCP's portal will remain open to accommodate the walk-in students in TVET institutions who are the largest percentage of the institution’s intakes.
