KPEEL Result Area 2
This Results Area is being funded through Result Based Financing under Disbursement Based Indicator (DLI) 4. The RA focuses on Improving girls’ participation in schooling, including in refugee hosting counties. This is achieved by removing financial barriers to school attendance through provision of basic education requirements for girls and boys from poor and vulnerable populations to enable them transit to secondary schools.
The financial barriers are removed through provision of Elimu Scholarship. this is a full scholarship which entails payment of school fees, provision of school kit, transport to and from school, pocket money and mentorship support services to enable learners to cope with schooling challenges for the four-year secondary education period.
ELIMU SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME (ESP).
The Ministry of Education-Kenya started implementing ELIMU SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME (ESP) under Kenya Primary Education Equity Learning (KPEEL) from the year 2022. Under KPEEL Program, 25,000 learners were set to benefit from scholarships, however, since inception ESP, the KPEEL program has supported a total of 34,000 beneficiaries in 3 cohorts surpassing the target. Out of the 34,000 beneficiaries, 8000 are camp-based refugee learners.
The Ministry is implementing ESP with support the Equity Group Foundation (EGF) and Jomo Kenyatta Foundation (JKF) as the implementing Partner Agencies. The EGF is supporting 20,000 and JKF 14,000.
