President Dr William Samoei Ruto Emphasizes TVET as a Pathway to Career Progression
His Excellency President Dr. William Samoei Ruto has underscored TVET as a pathway to
career progression noting that it is key to spurring industrialization in Kenya.
The President who was represented by deputy president Rigathi Gachagua during the Africa
Technology Challenge Award Ceremony held on July 31 in a Nairobi hotel, lauded the Ministry
of Education on the progress made in equipping and skilling the youths in Kenya.
Citing the collaboration of AVIC Corporation Holding with the Ministry of Education, the head
of State said that Kenya will continue investing and working with stakeholders and development
partners in the education system to improve the quality of the skills offered at TVETs to support
delivery of the pillars of the Kenya Kwanza plan of transforming the economy of Kenya.
Pointing out at the excellent innovations that were exhibited by the students who participated in
the Africa Technology Challenge, the President said that the African continent urgently needs
innovations that will address the negative impacts of climate change which must be integrated in
into various sectors of development.
The President further commended the winners of the Africa Tech Challenge who were recognized
and awarded for their exemplary innovations during the competition.
Education Cabinet Secretary Hon Ezekiel Machogu whose speech was read by Principal
Secretary of State Department For TVET Dr. Esther Thaara Muoria, hailed Africa Tech Challenge
and the World Skills Competitions saying that the two competitions are important tools to be
used by the Government to convey the outcomes of a good TVET system in Kenya.
The CS revealed that in the future the winners of the two competitions will be given an opportunity
to demonstrate their ability to sell their products to the world through multimedia-based presentations,
short promotional films, and role-playing. These, he said will help to address the unemployment
in Kenya and promote the achievement of the Government’s priority areas.
PS Dr. Esther Thaara Muoria congratulated TVET institutions and students who were recognized
and awarded for their exemplary performance in the Africa Tech Challenge.
The Africa Tech Challenge which was held both online and offline at the Technical University of
Kenya (TUK) for four weeks attracted a total of 332 participants from 9 countries.
A total of 100 students from TVET institutions in Kenya participated in the Africa Tech
Challenge and Samuel Irungu of Technical University of Kenya, Rosemary Muthoni of Coast
Institute of Technology and Tony Mugira of Nyeri National Polytechnic scooped the first,
second and third positions in the competition respectively.
